A Word on the May 16 Ballot

A pulpit insert from WE the People — Louisiana. Non-partisan. For prayerful consideration.

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, Louisiana voters will be asked five constitutional questions. One of them — Proposed Amendment No. 2 — concerns whether to create a separate St. George school system inside East Baton Rouge Parish, drawing new lines between our children. We offer the following verses for reflection before you vote.

"For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility." Ephesians 2:14
"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28
"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40
"When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself." Leviticus 19:33–34
"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8

Scripture is not neutral on separation. The prophets denounced it. The gospels dissolved it. The apostles warned against it. Amendment 2 would add a new dividing wall to the Louisiana Constitution — between children who learn together today and who, after May 16, would learn apart, on opposite sides of a line.

We do not tell you how to vote. We ask you to vote prayerfully, with the words of Ephesians and Micah in mind. And we ask you to remember that the children on both sides of the line Amendment 2 would draw are the same children Christ called His own.

May 16, 2026 · Saturday · Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
